Does SceneQuencer work on Ableton Live 11 or earlier?
SceneQuencer requires Max 8.2+ (for the v8 JavaScript object). Live 11 ships with Max 8.1 by default, so it won't load out of the box. Live 12+ is the supported configuration.
Do I need Live Suite, or will Standard / Intro work?
You need Max for Live. That's included with Live Suite, or you can buy it as an add-on for Live Standard. Live Intro does not support Max for Live and is not compatible.
What platforms does it work on?
macOS and Windows — anywhere Max for Live runs.
I dropped the .amxd into a folder but I don't see it in Live's Browser.
Live only shows folders it knows about. Either drop the file into your User Library (Places → User Library in Live's Browser) or add the folder via Live's Browser → Add Folder. Then look under Max Audio Effects.
I hit Play and nothing happens. What did I do wrong?
The most common cause is that Active is off. When Active is off, SceneQuencer hands control back to Live's regular transport — Live plays normally and the playlist is ignored. Click Active so it's lit, then hit Play.
A scene played for the wrong number of bars. Why?
By default, each step's length is the longest clip in that scene. To set a fixed length for newly-added steps, use Override bars (set it to any value > 0). To change an existing step, click it and use the + / – bar buttons in the full editor.
Can I record audio (mic, instrument) while bouncing to Arrangement?
Not with the built-in Record to Arrangement button. SceneQuencer intentionally leaves your tracks unarmed so no mic or input gets captured by mistake. If you need to record audio in tandem, arm the tracks manually and use Live's standard Arrangement recording.
I stopped SceneQuencer mid-record and my Arrangement tracks are grayed out and silent. What happened?
That's normal Ableton behavior, not a SceneQuencer bug. When you stop the record before the playlist finishes on its own, the Session clips that were still playing keep overriding the Arrangement on those tracks — so your fresh recording won't play back. Click Live's Back to Arrangement button (the small orange arrow that lights up in the top transport bar) to re-engage Arrangement playback. Your recorded tracks will play as expected.
Can I use multiple SceneQuencers in one Set?
No. SceneQuencer takes over Ableton's transport when Active is on, so multiple instances would fight over playback. Use a single device on your Main track.
Where are my playlists saved?
Inside the device. That means they live with your Set in the .als file — no separate files to manage, no exports. Save your Set and your playlists go with it.
How do updates work? Can I install on multiple computers?
It's a single device file — install it on every machine you work on. Updates are pushed via Gumroad: re-download from your Gumroad library any time, and you'll be emailed when a new version ships.
